Milano Cortina 2026: Mouat and Dodds continue winning start

Bruce Mouat and Jen Dodds continued their winning start to the curling mixed doubles round robin stage with a 10-5 victory over Estonia.

There was little to choose between the sides as scoring followed the hammer, with Team GB taking a crucial one-point lead at the halfway stage with the score at 4-3.

Both sides then traded two-point scores as Estonia’s Mari Kaldvee and Harri Lill kept themselves in the contest heading into the final two ends.

It was the seventh end that proved decisive, as Mouat and Dodds used their powerplay to great effect to score four.

That was ultimately enough to seal victory as the teams shook hands before the final end.

“We’re very happy with how we’re performing,” said Mouat.

“That was a better game for both of us – well for me at least, Jen played awesome last night.

“I am just excited that we are 2-0 to start the Olympics and hopefully getting Team GB off on the right foot.”

Mouat and Dodds made the perfect start to their campaign with an 8-6 victory over Norway on Wednesday and looked to follow that up against an Estonian side who were world silver medallists in 2024.

They made the ideal start, pushing out to a 2-0 lead in the opening end but Estonia hit straight back to level at 2-2.

The early stages all followed the same pattern, as Team GB again took two following an excellent final shot from Dodds that expertly threaded the needle.

The first slip came from Estonia in the fourth end, as they took just one after their final stone came up short.

That handed the advantage to Team GB and they took it with both hands in the seventh end, decisively scoring four to clinch victory.

It leaves Mouat and Dodds with two wins from two ahead of their third match against Czechia this evening.

“We’ve played the Estonian team a lot and they’re a very good team,” reflected Dodds.

“They won silver a couple of years ago at worlds, so we knew we were having to step up our performance from last night

“We had evening practice last night so we probably only got five, six hours sleep, so a nap is definitely required today.

“Then we refuel and comeback for the Czech game tonight.”
