Andrew Musgrave officially became a five-time Olympian as he sealed a top 10 finish in the men's 10km+10km skiathlon at Milano Cortina 2026, while debutant Joe Davies finished 16th on his maiden Olympic appearance.
In a field that was always likely aiming for silver behind Norway's golden boy Johannes Høsflot Klaebo, who took home his first gold of the Games and sixth overall, Musgrave pushed ahead in the freestyle section to challenge the chasing pack.
It was not enough to reach the podium, with a fast-paced group leading the way from early on, but was enough for his second-best Olympic finish across his five Games, just behind his seventh place at PyeongChang 2018 in the 30km skiathlon.
Musgrave crossed the line for 10th in a time of 47:00.05, which was 49.5 seconds behind gold as Joe Davies finished 16th on his Olympic debut in a time of 47:35.9.
The British duo worked together during the classic section of the course, coming into the transition area at 10km with Davies 16th and Musgrave 18th before techniques and skis changes and the experienced Musgrave surged ahead.
In a pack of four all racing together to the line, it was a tense sprint for the final moments for the Scot, who collapsed in exhaustion after the race.
Klaebo cruised over the line for gold in Tesero, almost teasing the leading pack in the closing stages by letting them stay with him before making his move with just one kilometre before and soaring into a comfortable lead.
A lead so large, he even had time to wave to the crowd before he took the tape.
The Norwegian is looking to become the most decorated Winter Olympian of all-time in Italy, and with three more golds, which is not out of reach for him, the crown would be his.
